Thorpeness Country Club has a strong history of excellent tennis. Boasting six hard courts and a further three grass courts in the summer, it offers a safe, fun and when you want it, competitive environment.

The Country Club hosts a variety of tournaments open to all throughout the year.

We also run specialist coaching breaks to help you with your game.

Every year in July and August there is a full programme of tennis tournaments, coaching and activities.

Tennis with Christine Janes MBE

As British junior champion in 1956 and 1957, Christine Truman Janes MBE made her Wimbledon debut in 1957 at age 16 and reached the semi-finals.

Christine Truman Janes was ranked No 2 in the world in 1959, she represented her country in the Wightman Cup from 1957 -1971, which Great Britain won 3 times. She retired from competitive tennis in 1975 and became a commentator for BBC radio, in 2001 she was awarded an MBE for her “services to sport.”

Tennis Coaching Masterclasses

Your first session will start with forehand and first serve techniques followed by back hand and second serve.

Volleying drills will be given at the end of each session.

In the afternoon you will get an opportunity to put it all into practice under Christine’s watchful eye.

Learn advanced strategies and tactics for doubles, tricks of the trade like when to poach.

Suitable for all ages and stages, but not for beginners.
To take part, you will need to become a member of the Country Club - both annual subscriptions and temporary weekly memberships are available.
